Today was a nearly-perfect travel day. We checked out of the Sheraton and had help from Eugene getting our bags over to the Lufthansa special services counter at the airport. Who is this Eugene character, you might ask? He is a very kind bellhop at the Sheraton who took us under his wing and made sure we were in the right place. How wonderful is was not to have to schlep the bags from the hotel! And Eugene did this in spite of the fact that I accidentally gave him ten Croatian Kuna for a tip yesterday (we exchanged that for correct Euros when he politely asked about the strange money).
Our flight from Frankfurt to Venice only took a little more than an hour. We had help with bags after landing, thanks to the folks at Lufthansa, caught a land taxi to Piazzole Roma (at the outskirts of Venice proper), then met up with our water taxi. After lots of help to get me on-board with my lovely non-working knees, we were on our way to the Weston Europa and Regina, on the east end of the Grand Canal.
Our room is exquisite, with a view towards the canal. We headed out after getting our stuff settled in the room and began exploring the charm of Venice. Now we are sitting at the bar at our hotel, right by the Grand Canal, admiring the views and the crazy boat traffic.
Enough blah, blah, blah – pictures tell it best.
